AIDS is the acronym for Acquired Immuno-Deficiency Syndrome. It is one of the widespread destructive epidemic disease world histories. More than 25 million people are affected with this disease since its discovery in 1981. It is among the top 5 causes of death in world records. Such a deadly disease is often misunderstood. People are unaware of the reasons behind the disease and how it can be handled. Not only adults, even newborns and children can also get affected by this disease. HIV virus causes AIDS disease. Without treatment, the disease leads to death. World AIDS Day is celebrated to bring awareness for this disease.

In 1988, the World AIDS Day was introduced. It was designated on 1st December every year. The day aims at uniting the global community to raise awareness about AIDS. It also focuses on fighting the disease and supporting for its prevention and treatment. The day raises awareness about the spread of HIV infection.

Apart from social activists and non-governmental organizations, government and health officials also participate in organizing this day. They often do activities to educate common people about AIDS prevention and control. They also organize speeches and discussion related to the AIDS. It provides a way for the health officials to allow people to know about the treatment and how to access it.

World AIDS Day is one of the official worldwide public health campaigns noted by the WHO – World Health Organization. After 2007, the World Aids Day was symbolized with a red ribbon – an iconic display of AIDS Ribbon.
