The International Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed every year on January 27. The day is considered as a memorial day for the victims of the Holocaust. The day commemorates the genocide by the by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. The Holocaust included Jewish people, Romani people, mentally and physically disabled people, and homosexual men.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day :(Brief Essay)

The observance of this day was designated by the United Nations on 1 November 2005. The day marked the anniversary of the end of Holocaust and liberation of the Nazi concentration camps. It was on 27 January 1945 that the largest Nazi concentration camp was liberated by the Soviet troops. The day has been observed as a national event in UK and Italy since 2001.

The theme for the Holocaust remembrance in 2017 is “Holocaust Remembrance: Educating for a Better Future”. The previous year, 2016, the theme was “The Holocaust and Human Dignity”. This year’s theme links to the Holocaust remembrance and educating people about Holocaust. The UN emphasizes on building respect for human rights, defending humanity, and increasing tolerance. The basic premise of the day observance is to teach the lesson that Holocaust has left behind for humankind. International Holocaust Remembrance Day teaches the dangers of extremism and how to prevent genocide in the present world.
