Raksha Bandhan is a traditional Hindu Festival celebrated every year on full moon day of the Shravan month (August) symbolize the sister love and prayers for her brother well being and in return brother take the vow to protect his sister for lifelong . Raksha Bandhan is also known as Rakhi Purnima or simply Rakhi in many parts of India.

There are many legends and stories are associated with this unique festival. One of the popular story associated with Raksha Bandhan is from our history. In medieval era, Rajputs were fighting against the Muslim invasions then Rani Karnawati the widowed queen of the king of Chittor sent a Rakhi  to Emperor Humayun requesting him to save her kingdom and life. Humayun Emperor deeply touched by the Queen gesture and reached Chittor with his troops without wasting any time to protect his sister. Since than this small ritual become festival.

On Raksha Bandhan sisters tie a silk thread or colorful Rakhi on wrist of her brother, apply tilak on their forehead, fed them with sweets and delicious food in return brothers make promise that they will save her from all troubles and harms for life long and give some gifts such as cards, clothes, money or something thoughtful as a token of their love. Sister’s who are unable to visit their brother home send Rakhi cards, e-Rakhi and Rakhi through mails and courier as a representation of their love and bonding of the siblings.

Raksha Bandhan is very beautiful festival that strengthens the bond of love between the sister and brother and it should be celebrated with love and affection.
